We are very pleased to welcome you to the Highland Cup 2019 Marcelová – International Traditional Archery Competition in Slovakia, Europe.

The competition will be held from 20th to 22th September and will include target archery and flight shooting competition.

The place of the competition will be in Marcelová, Slovakia.

Opening ceremony and welcome dinner will be at 20th September.

The competition will include Target archery (21st September) with traditional targets and Flight shooting competition (22nd September).

Our capacities are limited for foreign archers, so after we will launch the registration please fill the form and send as soon as possible and please read the rules for target and flight archery.

After our quotas are full, you can enjoy the competition, but only for your own expenses.

Your registration have to be confirmed by the organizers, than you can arrange your flight and journey. We can provide transport from the Budapest (HU) airport at 19th September and back at 23rd September 2019.

This event will be held from an inspiration of Historical Archery Group Fekete Sólyom (Black Falcon) from Marcelová (leaders Peter Bogár and Valéria Bogár) and by help of municipality Marcelová and STAA (Slovakian Traditional Archery Asssociation).

Our main objective is to make a great event with traditional archers from different countries, to show them our archery culture and strengthen cooperation between archers and associations.

Target archery rules

Categories

1. Female
2. Male

Only male and female is defined (no age groups). Minimum 15 years must be filled 1st of January of current year for participating.


Equipment

General definition of the historical bow

  • The shape and form of the bows shall align to historical bow types (e.g. Egyptian, Hellenic, Hungarian, Turkish, Tatar, Mongolian, English, Yumi etc). In case of disputation the main judge will decide to allow usage of the bow or not. The bow can be symmetrical or asymmetrically bow and the bow cannot be of a takedown style.
  • The bow cannot have a window and the arrow has to run out on the holding hand. No aid at all is allowed on the grip to hold or support the arrow.
  • The grip must be symmetrical sideways and is at least 15mm thick.
  • When a bow is strung the bowstring has to run along the middle line of the limb.

Type of the bow materials can be

  • Historical bow made of modern materials (nomadic or longbow)

The bow can be made of only one material or mixed materials that contain modern material (for example; adhesive, fiberglass).

  • Historical bow made of natural materials (nomadic, or longbow)

The bow can be made of only one material or mixed materials that contain only natural materials (e.g. wood, horn, bone, tendon, jelly, natural polish, bamboo).

Historical bow made of modern materials (nomadic or longbow) and Historical bow made of natural materials (nomadic, or longbow) will compete in the same category, but if there will equal point, the Historical bow made of natural materials will have an advantage.

Arrows

  • Arrows can be made of single wood, bamboo, or cane material.
  • Fletching only with natural (bird) feathers.
  • Plastic nock is allowed. Nock from natural material or self-nocks can be used too, but have to be ensured with appropriate materials. If there will be point equality between archers in the competition, than the natural or self-nock will have preference against plastic nock.
  • No marks are allowed on the arrow that may help in draw checking.
  •  The following materials are not allowed in arrow shafts: glass fiber, carbon, plastic fiber, plastic, metal.
  • Competitors must write their names and surnames on their arrows.

Bow string

  • The bow string can be made of any color and material. A center string serving may be used with only one (nock point) placed on it. In the stage of full draw, the string serving cannot be in the competitor’s view. Any other sign on the string is not allowed.

Accessories

  •  Accessories for the purpose of stabilization, leveling, aiming, draw-weight reduction or draw checking are not allowed.
  • Accessories for overdraw like siper, mecra or other are not allowed.
  • Thumb ring, finger protection, tabs and other protectors are allowed.
  • The drawing finger must touch the nock.

Technical control

  • Before stepping to the shooting line judges will control the equipment.
  • Leave the waiting line and is not allowed to it before the shooting is completed and the judges instructs so.
  • Only one bow and arrows are allowed to bring to the shooting line.
  • A shooter must touch the shooting line with the front leg while shooting.

Shooting rules

  • Archers are shooting in same time
  • After finishing the round the archers are going to the targets in one time for controlling the scores.

Targets

  • Traditional targets from 30m (detailed information with target types and distances, will be available soon with pictures)

Scoring

  • Scoring will be managed by judges

Prize

  • 1st., 2nd and 3rd place - medal, certificate, trophy
  • Main prize in female and male category will be a Végh bow offered by Róbert Végh.

Dress regulation

  • Historical clothing shall be worn by the competitors. (jeans, sports shoes etc. are not allowed to wear)

Important!!!

The organizers have limited capacities, so the registration will be accepted according to the order in which the registrations are received.

* By participating in the competition, the competitor acknowledges that if he / she does not participate in the evaluation of the competition, ie the closing ceremony, the competitor following him / her will be announced.

By participating in the contest, the contestant agrees that the photos and videos of the contestant will be used by the organizers on their website and facebook page.

Flight shooting rules

Categories

1. Limited bow weight from modern materials 50 lbs – male
2. Limited bow weight from modern materials 50 lbs – female
3. Unlimited bow weight from modern materials – male
4. Unlimited bow weight from modern materials - female
5. Unlimited bow weight - bows only from natural materials - mixed (certificate of originality is required, not relevant if the bowyer shooting with his own bow)

Bows are divided into 2 different poundage limits: maximum draw weight 50 pounds and over 51 pounds (called unlimited).

Draw weight for limited category will be checked with the longest arrow to be shot if arrows are of different length. The point of the arrow will be drawn over till arrow falls from grip, ensuring equal measurement for all.

  • Fletching only with natural bird feathers, parchment or paper vanes.
  • Only nock from natural material or self-nocks may be used and have to be ensured with appropriate materials.
  • No marks are allowed on the arrow that may help in draw checking.
  • The following materials are not allowed in the shafts of arrows: glass fiber, carbon, plastic fiber, plastic, metal.
  • Maximum 10 cm counted from the nock can be painted with non-transparent color.
  • Competitors must write their names and surnames on their arrows.

Bow string

  • The bow string can be made of any color and material. A center string serving may be used with only one (nock point) placed on it. Any other sign on the string is not allowed.

Accessories

  • Accessories for the purpose of stabilization, leveling, aiming, draw-weight reduction or draw checking are not allowed.

  • To the shooting line is only allowed to take bow for the recent category and 5 arrows are allowed to bring with.
  • During controlling the judge marks the arrows with permanent marker. After this control the archer goes to the waiting line and is not allowed to leave it before the shooting is completed and the judges instructs so. Leaving before completed shooting will result in disqualification.

Shooting field

  • The archery field have to be easy overviewed and flat area.
  • Safety taken in consideration the ideal field measurements are: the minimum with is a zone of minimum of 30 meters on both sides of the shooting line. The minimum length is 700 meters. The maximum angle of the lines running out from baseline is 30 degrees resulting in a continuously with ending field.

Shooting rules

  • 5 arrows per shooter per category will be shot from the shooting line. Only one bow and 5 arrows are allowed to bring to the shooting line. Any arrow, which is dropped inside (whole arrow on shooters side) the technical line and can be recovered while touching the shooting line may be re-shot within the time limit.
  • A shooter must touch the shooting line with the front leg while shooting.
  • All archers in the same category shots in same group, same time. If the archer did not attend the shooting in the relevant category, do not have right to shoot in another time.
  • As a courtesy to fellow competitors, archers have to wait for their turn in a certain distance, behind shooting line (5m) from the shooter till the shooting position becomes vacant and on judges signal can be occupied again.
  • Time limit for shooting the 5 arrows is 210 seconds. The judge decides the start of shooting for each group. Shooting line must be left after the fifth shot and another archer can step to the place and start shooting. Archers must stay behind the waiting line till do not have free place for shooting.
  • Non competitor persons cannot enter the shooting field unless instructed to do so by a judge.
  • The arrows are collected by the competitors when results are scored and instructed by judges.
  • For safety considerations and to insure a timely competition, searching for lost arrows is only allowed after the end of competition.
  • If the equipment failure occurs during the act of shooting, the shooter will have up to 5 minutes for repair. A shooter may change his/her bow to an inspected reserve bow one time in a tournament.
  • A bow can’t be used by more than one competitor in one flight shooting category.
  • Only traditional style of holding the grip and release are allowed, like: Thumb draw styles and Mediterranean draw. In any question the main judge will decide about the shooting is allowed or not.
  • If the equipment or shooting style is not conforming to regulations determined by the Organizing Committee the shooter will be disallowed.

Measuring

  • Arrows are evaluated and scored by the judges and their helpers.
  • Only the arrows located in the shooting field is valid.
  • Only the arrow located on longest distance from shooting line for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places of competitor is labeled and scored (by judges).
  • If the arrows are not marked correctly and the name could not be readable, it will be not scored.
  • Any arrow not anchored into the ground won’t be measured. Any arrow identified not anchored because of a rigid surface will be measured.
  • If the arrow is broken after being anchored the measurement will be from the tip point.
  • Ranking will be arranged according to the farthest distance.
  • If the equipment or shooting style is not conforming to regulations determined by the organizers the shooter will be disallowed.
  • If the material of arrow shaft is suspected the judges have right to brake it after the shot has been measured. This rule must be accepted to enter the competition.
  • If arrow is not found on the field the shot is not valid.

Dress regulation

  • Historical clothing shall be worn by the competitors. (jeans, sports shoes etc. are not allowed to wear)

Targets - Target archery 21.9.2019

Archers will shoot 10 arrows per target. The arrows have to be signed with the archer name (the arrows have to be the same design to help the work of the judges).

The ranking is based on the total score.

Every archer will go to the field in one time in groups and will shoot in one time for judge sign. After each round the competitors goes for arrows and scoring. The scoring and point registration is made by judges. Taking out the arrows from the target is possible after the judge allows.

We reserve the right to make minimum changes to the distances and targets!

1. 30m, Warrior silhouette

Pointing: yellow: 3 point (16 cm x 78 cm), red: 2 point, black: 1 point

2. 45m, Fita, 80 cm

Pointing: yellow: 3 point (31 cm), red: 2 point, white: 1 point

3. 45m, Bhutanese target, 120 cm x 41 cm

Pointing: 4 color ring: 3 point (31 cm), yellow parts: 2 point, lower part of the target - 30 cm from the bottom: 1 point

4. 60m, Puta target

Pointing: yellow: 3 point (43 cm), red: 2 point, brown: 1 point

5. 69m, Mamluk, 100 cm circle, Folding screen in 265 cm
